By completing this process, you're ensuring the safety of our players and the continued success of our program.

Important Notice

All coaches must complete both registration and training before practices start. Your commitment helps create a safe and positive environment for our players.

Step 1: Annual Volunteer Registration

Mandatory Requirement

If you do not register you cannot coach. There are no exceptions.

Why Register?

  • Required for AYSO background checks
  • Provides liability insurance protection
  • Ensures player safety and program integrity
  • No registration = No coaching

Registration Process

  • Select the appropriate registration link
  • Complete the online form (5-10 minutes)

Important Registration Notes

  • Must e-sign before closing your session
  • Write down your AYSO ID number (needed for training)

Step 2: Required Coach Training

Complete all courses at www.aysotraining.org using your AYSO ID

All training must be completed before practices start

Start Training

AYSO Safe Haven

  • Focuses on safety and appropriate behavior
  • Promotes positive, healthy environment
  • Required for all volunteers
  • Online course (~30 minutes)

Age-Appropriate Training

  • U6/U8: Online only (~1 hour)
  • U10/U12: Online + 2-hour in-person
  • Covers coaching fundamentals
  • Required for all coaches & assistants

CDC Concussion Awareness

  • Mandatory state requirement
  • Online, self-paced course
  • Comprehensive concussion education
  • Required for all coaches

Safety Information

Safety Director's Message

Ensure a safe and enjoyable soccer season by following these guidelines:

  • Check all equipment to ensure it's in good condition
  • Shin guards must always be worn
  • Ensure all goal posts are securely anchored
  • Proper nutrition and hydration are essential
  • Make warming up and cooling down part of your routine
  • Don't play if hurt - sit out the next game if injured
  • Know the rules of the game
  • Remove all jewelry and piercings during practice/games
  • Always dispose of trash properly
  • Show respect to all players, coaches and officials

Taped Ears Policy

Putting tape over newly pierced ears is not acceptable. Studs must be removed during practice and games. Players may not participate with earrings or studs in their ears.

Coach Notes

Field Positioning

  • Home team: North/West side of field
  • Visitors: South/East side of field
  • Ensure players and spectators are on correct sides

Game Day Commitment

  • Games are scheduled on Saturdays
  • If you can't attend, ensure assistant coach is available
  • Avoid rescheduling - it affects all players/parents
  • Make every effort to play all games as scheduled

AYSO 612 Coaches Code

  • Enthusiastically support and practice the "Everyone Plays," "Good Sportsmanship," "Positive Coaching" and "Player Development" philosophies
  • Be reasonable in your demands on young players' time, energy, and enthusiasm
  • Impress on players that they must abide by the Laws of the Game
  • Develop team respect for opponents, referees, and opposing coaches
  • Ensure players' experience is fun and enjoyable (winning is only part of it)
  • Set a good example and be generous with praise
  • Keep informed of sound principles of coaching and child development
  • Check equipment and facilities for safety standards
  • Follow physician's advice regarding injured players
